Piccadilly line back up and running
The last of the tube lines that were shut down due to the bombings
last month was reopened yesterday. On the way to my Ultimate Frizbee
game with 10 minutes before the game, I switched at Finsbury Park
station onto the Piccadilly line. It wasn't before I sat down on the
train that I remembered that it hadn't been running. It was a
convenient time for it to start running again. Chalk one up to poor
planning and luck.
I had heard a statistic that the ridership of the underground went
down 30% after the bombs. The three lines that were shut down, either
completely or partially, were major lines that moved a lot of people.
That might very well have accounted for nearly that number of
travellers. In many cases, it would have been faster for people to
just take a bus rather than circumventing the affected areas via
alternate tube lines. Thusly reducing the overall number of people in
the tube. I'm not convinced that 30% of former riders are avoiding
the tubes due to fear of bombs.
Tonight we're heading out to celebrate an important birthday! I never
thought that we'd be organizing outings with friends, exclusively by
mobile phone text messages. It's surprisingly effective, and really
helps your Haiku skills as you try to fit as much meaning into as few
words as possible.
